In today’s world, there are many “messages” you can listen to. The world has shrunk, in terms of access to information, but has expanded, in terms of the ease of which ordinary people can publish their thoughts and beliefs.
So with everything you hear, you might come to the question…who should I listen to? Who’s right? Which way is best?
Well…before we can get to the good news (there is a right way) we need to cover the bad news.
The Bad News
Unfortunately, there is some really, really terrible news that you must hear.
You are a sinner!
To sin is to “miss the mark” or “fall short”. Every person on planet Earth is a sinner.
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
And because you are sinner, you are condemned to an eternity in Hell.
That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
II Thessalonians 2:2
You may be thinking…”Hang on a minute, I’m good person. I don’t steal, I don’t kill, I treat others with respect.” and other such things. This may be very true. You may be “good” in the eyes of the world.
In God’s eyes, none of that matters, because all it takes is one slip-up to be guilty of eternal damnation.
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
So let me ask you a few questions:
- Have you ever lied?
The ninth commandment states “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.” (Exodus 20:16)
- Have you ever stolen anything? Even some small toy or trinket from a brother or sister?
The eight commandment says “Thou shalt not steal.” (Exodus 20:15)
- Have you ever committed adultery?
Christ said “whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28)
- What do you think about/cherish the most? What is your primary goal in life? Seeking the things of God…or something else?
Christ said “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21)
The first and great command is “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” (Matthew 22:37)
- Have you ever broken any civil laws, like running a red light or exceeding the posted speed limit?
Paul maintained “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.” (Romans 13:1-2)
And I could go on and on. The question is, have you ever broken any of these commandments?
If you are honest, you would have to say…
“Yes, I am guilty.”
You see, God doesn’t compare how you live your life to how other people live their lives. God has his own standard, and it is not obtainable. It is the rule of the law (the ten commandments) and no human being can keep them for the duration of their life. Somewhere, at some point, you, me and everyone else in the world will break one (and probably all) of these commandments.
But there is good news…
The Good News
After you realize that there is no way that you can be good enough to satisfy God on your own, you may give up hope.
Don’t do that!
God has made a way for you to obtain heaven, to escape the damnation of hell, an eternity separated from God.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
You see, when sin is committed against God, he demands payment for that sin. And the payment required is death.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
The reason we are all sinners, is because it was passed down to us from our parents, and them from their parents, and them from their parents, all the way back to the first man, Adam, the progenitor (all of mankind’s earliest ancestor) of the human race.
But God sent his perfect son to take away that penalty.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
So because of Adam, we are all sinners. But because of Christ, who was not a sinner, we have the opportunity to accept his righteousness.
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
I Peter 2:4
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
I Peter 3:18
Christ paid the price for our redemption. He made the payment for sin. He died on the cross, that he might bear our sin.
Further, Christ rose again from dead, conquering death forever.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
I Corinthians 15:55-57
Because Christ conquered death through his resurrection, we can be completely free of hell, and any condemnation of sin.
Hopefully you are asking…”How can I be spared from this condemnation, this eternity in hell?”
The answer is simple, repent and believe.
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
So what are you waiting for? Simply call out to the Lord, repent of your sins, and ask Christ to save you.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
The words “shall be saved” leave no room for doubt. If you follow the Lord in repentance and faith, you are absolutely, 100% and completely guaranteed to be with him in heaven.
I implore you, do it now. Don’t wait.
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
II Corinthians 6:2
There’s nothing better than knowing, without even a shred of doubt, that you are saved. That you will be with Christ in heaven when this life has ended.
Again I saw, don’t wait. Repent and trust Christ right now!
