I think we can all agree that we live in an uncertain world. Many of us learn early that not everyone can be trusted, and depending on the severity of the consequences, that lesson will stick with us for the rest of our lives. A big part of living and having healthy relationships involves putting trust into someone else, and unfortunately, man is a fallible creature. The natural, unsaved man (or woman) is sooner or later going to let you down or break a promise that will make you wonder if you can trust them again.
Christians have the same problem with each other as well as with non-believers. You see, Christians aren’t perfect either, just saved by the grace of God. Sometimes Christians break promises, and let each other down, or are hurt by other Christians. As sinful human beings, trust is typically difficult to build back up.
God on the other hand, is perfect. His ways are perfect, and he keeps his promises…without fail. God has NEVER broken a promise, and we can put our complete trust in what he tells us. Here are just a few of the promises of God that he has made to believers that he will not break.
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:4
The Promise of Eternal Life
And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
I John 2:25
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
The Promise of Protection
But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
The Promise of Guidance
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
The promise of God’s faithfulness
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
I Thessalonians 5:24
Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
God has promised so much to those that love him and keep his commandments, who have trusted Christ to be their Savior.
